The treatment that we use for when removing a hornets nest can be broken down into three simple steps:
Once you have called out our team, they can give you the advice you need before our team arrives at your property. Upon arrival, our Able Bolton engineer will survey the area and assess the measures that need to be taken to apply the treatment, along with identifying that it is indeed a hornets nest. Our expert will then determine the best course of action moving forward.
We use an industry standard insecticide spray to treat hornets called Ficam D. This is applied to the entrance of the nest. This allows for the insecticide to stick to the worker hornets and transfer deep inside the nest, eventually reaching and killing the Queen. This should eliminate the nest within a couple of hours.
As stated previously, the treatment works within a couple of hours of application. Our pest engineer will then talk you through the aftercare and precaution steps that need to be taken after the treatment. This includes steering clear of the nest immediately after application of the treatment as this results in a build up of activity until the hornets themselves die off.

Despite their similarities, hornets have some features that can make them more distinguishable. Hornets can be 2 inches (5cm) in size with a dark brown (or slight reddish tinge) and black colouration. They are noticeably bigger than a wasp, which is the clearest distinguishable factor.
Hornet stings are known to be more painful than that of a wasp. Hornets can also sting repeatedly, meaning multiple stings can be inflicted. The same treatment as for wasps, should be followed. Ensure that you wash the affected area with warm water and soap before applying a hydrocortisone cream, if needed, to help with swelling. If symptoms get worse, ensure that you seek medical attention.
A hornet nest does not look too dissimilar to that of a wasp nest. Grey in colour, it looks almost paper-like, but is built from chewed up pieces of wood. Hornets are very protective of their nests as they house their eggs.
When a nest on your property is located in a hard to reach area, such as a chimney or rooftop, it is important to let us know when you call us. This is to ensure that when our engineer attends your property, they have the correct and necessary equipment to deal with your hornet nest.
The nest cannot be removed immediately after the treatment. A couple of days need to have passed in order to ensure that hornets returning to the nest are affected by the treatment. We will need to wait until after the nest has become dead and therefore dormant. Discuss with our engineer and they can ensure we arrange a repeat visit to remove the nest from your property.
